General Information

Dear Veterinary surgeons, practice manager, VNs, VAs and veterinary support colleagues,

To seek stakeholders’ views on Veterinary Nursing Education and Training in Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong’s School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) and School of Continuing and Professional Education (SCOPE) are jointly conducting a survey.

Following the graduation of the first and only cohort of BSc degree veterinary nurses, CityU, supported by experienced staff in veterinary education in HK, seeks to establish a new locally run veterinary nursing programme, with additional support from an overseas University that has longstanding expertise in veterinary nursing education.

A three-pronged approach has been designed for this survey, to ensure it caters to views of veterinary professionals, veterinary para-professionals and pet owners. Your responses, therefore, will help us ensure the new programme meets the needs of different stakeholders.

The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete. There are many opportunities in the questionnaire for you to provide comments freely. Please feel free to share with us as much, or as little, of your views / thoughts as you like.

Paper / PDF and online versions of the questionnaire are available. A respondent should complete a questionnaire ONCE only. For paper / PDF questionnaires please reply to this email. For online participation, please click into ONE of the questionnaires listed below that best applies to you.

• Veterinary Surgeon / Veterinary Practice Owner (or Manager) http://www.cityu.edu.hk/svm/links/20150526VetMobile.asp

• Veterinary support staff (eg Vet Nurse, Vet/Med Lab Technician, Vet Assistant, Vet Receptionist, Animal Keepers, Animal Welfare/Shelter Organisations, Veterinary Suppliers etc) http://www.cityu.edu.hk/svm/links/20150526SupportMobile.asp

• Pet owner http://www.cityu.edu.hk/svm/links/20150526OwnerMobile.asp

For Pet owners’ participation, we ask for your generous support in recruitment by posting the attached simple poster in your clinic. The poster contains similar information given in this email and includes a QR code for owner scan to access the questionnaire.

Please feel free to forward this message to your colleagues who you feel would be interested in participating in this Survey.

The survey opens until 30 June 2015.

We very much appreciate you are taking time from a hectic work schedule to respond to this survey. We value your feedback immensely for this important veterinary nursing education development process.

If you wish to discuss this survey and veterinary nursing education in more detail, please contact us at svmnurse@cityu.edu.hk or on Tel: 3442 6138.

Yours faithfully

Veterinary Nursing Team

    Recruiting experienced scanners
(abdominal ultrasound & echocardiography) in Asia.

Hong Kong Mobile Veterinary Ultrasound Service (HKVUS) (see our website: www.ultrasoundvet.com.hk) provides abdominal ultrasounds and echocardiography to the Hong Kong veterinarians, and is now expanding its service in Asia (Hong Kong, Singapore, China).

Ideally, we are looking for already experienced scanners in both abdominal ultrasound and echocardiography. Training, however, will be provided as necessary in order to support the right candidates (with formal in-class lectures as well as one-on-one hands-on training sessions).

We are part of a Doctors Beck & Stone’s Diagnostic Division, which includes a veterinary laboratory (see our web site: http://vetdiagnosticcentre.com.hk), and all our ultrasound guided samples are read by boarded veterinary pathologists in a maximum of 36 hours for cytology. The service is just amazing and since we see an average of 10 to 20 cases a day (and be given the opportunity to work with boarded internists and surgeons as well as generalists), the experience is just tremendous!

Don’t hesitate to contact us should you be interested, or know someone in your network who might be.

Salaries are very attractive – plus the excitement of expatriation on top of a very rewarding career and a great chance to see a lot and learn a lot fast!

Looking forward to hearing from you soon,

    Best regards,

    Dr. Myriam Baranger-Ete

Calling all Hong Kong VAs & Nurses!

Come volunteer at PhaNgan Animal Care for Strays (PACS) - a non-profit nursing clinic in the Gulf of Thailand. PACS provides nursing (with hospital) care for all stray animals in need, as well as running a neutering programme to control the population. This year is aimed at intensive neutering, so we are getting in volunteer vets & need more nurses to help, especially during surgery times. We can usually provide on-site accommodation & basic food for full-time volunteers who can donate a full month. Less than that, or part-time volunteers cannot be guaranteed accommodation, but there are many cheap resorts nearby! Koh PhaNgan is a beautiful island to visit, with great people, beaches, snorkeling, diving, trekking, waterfalls and many parties! Have a wonderful holiday & make it a meaningful one :) More information about PAC at https://www.facebook.com/PhanganAnimalCare and information about volunteering at http://www.pacthailand.org/index.php/support-pac/become-a-volunteer/2-uncategorised/31-volunteer-form-nurses
